Student Artists Works on Display in Atlantic Highlands

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - Paintings and drawings created by Monmouth County Arts High and Middle School students will be on display at the Atlantic Highlands Public Library, located at 48 Avenue C in Atlantic Highlands during the month of May 2011.

The exhibit features work completed by gifted and talented students who participated in the Monmouth County Arts High and Middle School program. The program, which is now in its 8^th year, offers advanced arts classes in creative writing, dance, instrumental music, vocal music, acting and visual arts to public and private school students in Monmouth County. Students, admitted to the program through audition are released from their schools one afternoon each week to participate in the various courses which are taught by professional artists.

Work from twenty four Monmouth County students was selected for the exhibit this year. Satz IS, Holmdel; James Monaghan- Markham Place School, Little Silver; Hannah O’Connell- Long Branch MS; Caroline Weiner- Ocean Township IS; Melanie Weiner-Ocean Township HS; Jessica Zygmaniak- Matawan Regional HS. House Fire on Asbury Avenue in AH

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - A quick response from AHFD, HFD, Belford, and Middletown Fire Companies to 94 Asbury Avenue today at about 12:30 p.m. when a call went out about a house fire. No one was injured, though one resident was being monitored in an ambulance at the scene by Atlantic Highlands First Aid Squad. The fire was reported by one observer on the scene as being in the dryer vent. More details will be posted as they become available.

Middletown Road Improvements Slated to Begin This Spring

MIDDLETOWN. NJ – Improvements along 20 stretches of township road are slated to begin over the next few months. The scheduled improvement projects include:

·Pine Street from Swimming River Road to Hickory Lane (Lincroft)
·Viburnum Terrace and Boxwood Terrace (Shady Oaks – Lincroft)
·Cooper Road from Browns Dock Road to Bowne Road (Navesink)
·Kings Highway East from Windy Hill to Portland Road
·Various Road Improvements: Sections of Browns Dock Road, Red Hill Road, East Road, Marlpit Place, Twin Brooks Avenue and West Nut Swamp Road
·Drainage Improvements: Van Kirk Avenue, Garfield Avenue, Fairfield Avenue, Summit Avenue, Farview Avenue, and Reta Drive.

Funding for the projects was approved by the Township Committee at the regular April meeting. Road improvement projects can include milling, paving, drainage work and curbing. Projects are selected based on need as well as recommendations from the Township Public Works Director, who also serves as Township Engineer, and Roads Division Supervisors, said Township Administrator Anthony Mercantante.

Murray and Fiore to Run on GOP ticket for Middletown Township Committee

Deputy Mayor Pam Brightbill Not Running for Reelection After Six Years of Dedicated Service to the Township

MIDDLETOWN—Middletown Township Mayor Tony Fiore and Zoning Board Member/Housing Authority Commissioner Stephanie Murray today filed petitions seeking the Republican nomination for Middletown Township Committee for 2011.

“I know Stephanie Murray will serve the taxpayers of Middletown well based on her record of service on the Zoning Board and as a Commissioner on the Housing Authority,” said Mayor Fiore. “Stephanie is not only a tireless member of our community, but also a dedicated wife and mother to three children whose family has lived in Middletown for 10 years.”

“While my commitment to public service is no less now than it was six years ago, I feel that it is the right time to pass the baton to another active member of our community, which is why I am pleased to support Stephanie Murray for Township Committee,” said Deputy Mayor Pam Brightbill. “I know that Stephanie will make an excellent addition to the Committee and help preserve the quality of life we all enjoy in Middletown.”

“It is an honor to have received a tremendous amount of support to continue my public service to Middletown by seeking to serve as a member of the Township Committee,” said Stephanie Murray. “I am looking forward to the challenges ahead to help maintain the quality of life we all enjoy while keeping taxes low in one of the largest municipalities in New Jersey.”

In addition to serving as a member of the Zoning Board and a Commissioner on the Middletown Housing Authority, Mrs. Murray has also served as a member of the Township’s Parks and Recreation Advisory and Open Space Committees. Stephanie is also the founder of a community group known as “Middletown Mornings” which is an open forum for residents of Middletown to meet with their local public officials. Murray holds a B.A. from Fordham University and runs a small publishing company.

Celebrate National Library Week at the Red Bank Public Library April 10-16, 2011

RED BANK, NJ - Join us at the Red Bank Public Library for a celebration of National Library Week from April 10 through 16, 2011. The library will host an array of activities and raffles, starting off the week with free bagels for our patrons with the compliments of Manhattan Bagel, Red Bank.

Anyone visiting the library during the week will receive a free raffle ticket to enter a drawing to win one of several baskets containing great gifts donated by local businesses. Gifts will include theatre and movie tickets from Two River Theater Company, Count Basie Theatre, AMC Theatres, and Clearview Cinemas, as well as gift certificates to local restaurants, hair salons, and much more. For chocolate lovers, the Red Bank Chocolate Shoppe will supply special treats at various times during the week.

Also in honor of National Library Week, the Friends of the Red Bank Public Library are raising funds to support the library with a raffle for a Barnes & Noble Nook eReader. Raffle tickets are $5.00 each and will be sold at the Circulation Desk.

To wrap up the week on Saturday, April 16, Red Bank guitarist and singer-songwriter Jim Crawford will provide live entertainment in the Adult Department of the library beginning at 2:00 p.m. Specializing in Americana, folk, and country styles, Jim recently performed at the Jersey Acoustic Music Awards show in Asbury Park, at which his album “Team of My Father” was nominated for Album of the Year. Readie’s Fine Foods of Red Bank will be providing delicious treats for library visitors Saturday afternoon, and the Children’s Department will be offering temporary tattoos all day.
