RED BANK, NJ - This year marks the 15th Anniversary of the annual Mudslingers Art Show and Sale. The celebration will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 1-6 pm. The show is hosted by accomplished Red Bank potter Lauren Bellero in her home/studio location, 39 Leroy Place, Red Bank. Each year, a prominent local artist is also invited to participate. This year’s show features artwork by the talented Mike Quon of Fair Haven, NJ. It’s a cool little art show in a cool little town.
“The Dublin House” by Mike Quon
Lauren Bellero is an award winning clay artist whose unique decorative and functional pottery has been shown in several galleries throughout the United States and in select juried art shows. Though her initial career was as a “professional” in a large company, Lauren eventually found corporate life to be a drain on her creative spirit. Remembering her apprenticeship with Pfaltzgraf Pottery as a high school student, she resurrected her early interest in clay and began what has become a twenty year study of the medium. She rediscovered her passion in the early 90’s, and in 2001 left corporate life to become a full time artist. Lauren’s specialty is “pit firing” which is an ancient technique of firing unglazed pots in an earthen kiln (hers is a 10’ x 4’ x 4’ deep pit on Canadian property she and her husband own). This type of surface treatment results in pottery with a distinctive flame-inspired palette and a natural, earthy quality. Lauren also creates one-of-a-kind functional glazed ware for everyday use. More about pit firing and Lauren’s work can be learned by visiting her website: mudslingerspottery.net, or ‘friend’ her on facebook.
Mudslingers’ featured guest this year is artist and designer Mike Quon. Mike is a graphic artist best known for his colorful, bold brushstroke style and whimsical depictions of favorite places, everyday objects and architecture. The son of a Disney animator and student of the Pop Art movement, Quon has had a distinguished career as a graphic designer and illustrator. Mike especially enjoys drawing buildings and landmarks in his free-form style, and is available to create an original 'Home or Favorite Place Portrait' by commission. Forty-Piece Group Welcomes Students
Lincroft, NJ –Brookdale Community College announces the formation of a chorus-in-residence on the Lincroft campus. This new group is called the BROOKDALE CONCORDIA CHORALE. This chorus has been formed by inviting the Concordia Chorale to join the Brookdale community as its resident chorus. Current chorus members are now welcoming students from the BCC Voice Classes as members of the Chorale.
The Concordia Chorale has been singing the masterworks of the choral repertory since its inception in 2001. In the last 11 years the Chorale has sung 6 major oratorios by Handel, major works by Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Brahms and many other major figures of the standard repertory along with major works by contemporary composers.
The 40-voice Chorale rehearses and performs under the leadership of Cynthia & John Balme who are also adjunct professors at the College. Along with a steady schedule of performances around Monmouth County, the Chorale has sung at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. The Chorale frequently performs with its companion group, the Concordia Youth Chorale.
In May of 2013 the Brookdale Concordia Chorale will collaborate with the Concordia Youth Chorale in the local premiere of THE PEACEMAKERS by the fantastically successful contemporary composer Karl Jenkins. This work received its world premiere at Lincoln Center in January 2012.
